Transfer or stop the water supply

Typical deadline: 30 days after the death

As with electricity, the water supply must be transferred or stopped. The competent body is EYDAP in Attica or the local municipal water company (DEYA).

Steps

  1. Find the meter or supply number on a bill.
  2. Apply for a name change or disconnection at EYDAP or the local DEYA.
  3. Provide the death certificate and the new holder's details.

Documents usually needed

  • Death certificate

Frequently asked questions

Who handles water — EYDAP or the municipality?

In Attica it is usually EYDAP; in the rest of Greece the local municipal water utility (DEYA). The meter/supply number on the bill points to the responsible provider.

Do I have to visit an office or can it be done online?

Many DEYA utilities and EYDAP now accept online applications for a name change, with the death certificate attached. Check the provider's site before booking an appointment — you'll often save the trip.
